1478012 Book rests; brackets R M BLACKBURNE 2 July 1974 [2 July 1973] 31509/73 Headings A4B and A4H A book rest comprises a transparent plate 1 for supporting a book 8 face downwards thereon for reading from below, a sill 2 and/or clamp for positioning the book on plate 1, the plate 1 being carried by an adjustable support means to position the plate with respect a support surface or member, and electric illuminating means to illuminate the downwardly facing surface of the book. In Fig. 2, the plate 1 is positioned on a bed 5 by individually adjustable telescopic legs 3 which are hinged to or detachable from plate 1, and the book is illuminated by one or more lights 9 adjustable on or detachably mounted on a leg 3. In Fig. 3, the plate 1 is carried by a single arm 10 comprising mutually telescopic and rotatably adjustable parts 10a, 10b, the arm 10 being hinged to plate 1 at 4 and to a plate 12 at 11. The plate 12 may be screwed to a wall, floor, bed, head board etc. In another form Fig. 4 (not shown), the plate is carried by a single leg (14) mounted on a wheeled base (15). In an alternative arrangement, the book may be illuminated by a light source adjacent one edge of plate 1 that shines light into the plate.
