1477040 Recovering water and solids from water/solids systems HANOVER RESEARCH CORP 6 Nov 1974 36453/76 Divided out of 1477039 Heading B1B Aqueous slurries and suspensions are dehydrated and the solids recovered by (1) mixing with a relatively non-volatile oil to obtain a mixture which will remain fluid and pumpable after water removal (2) evaporating the water to yield an oil/solids slurry (3) condensing the resulting water vapour as a clean water product (4) separating the major part of the oil from the slurry (5) removing the remaining non-volatile oil by extraction with a relatively low viscosity, volatile, water-immiscible oil and (6) removing the remaining volatile oil from the solids by direct contact with steam. The dehydration of sewage sludge suspensions is described.
