Abstract

1475992 Fluidized bed combustion apparatus FLUIDFIRE DEVELOPMENT Ltd 11 April 1974 [18 Jan 1973] 14272/76 Divided out of 1475991 Heading F4B A fluidized bed arranged for heat transfer is located adjacent to a fluidized bed in which fuel is burned, and heat conductive material is circulated between the beds. A fluidized combustion bed comprising a central section fluidized by air delivered through porous tiles 14 arranged to form a trough is separated from a heat transfer fluidized bed supported on perforated plates 13 by baffles 43 extending down to the bed supports and apertured in their lower regions. Finned bent exchange tubes 42 are arranged in the transfer beds, and a sloping perforated plate below a central aperture surrounded by a frame 15 allows the periodic removal of large residue lumps by fluidizing the finer overlying material. The porous tiles 14 are supplied with a gas and air mixture through plenum chambers 19 to start up, the heat transfer bed not being fluidized. When the bed is hot, the gas supply may be cut off and refuse fed into the bed by shoot 28, and the heat transfer beds are fluidized by the supply of air to plenum chambers 20 below the perforated plates 13. The rates of air supply are such that the bed material circulates as shown by the arrows, to heat the tubes 42. Additional heat exchange tubes may be arranged in the flue, which may include an induced draught fan and a cycline separator.
