Abstract

1474482 Dyeing acidic synthetic fibres HOECHST AG 16 Aug 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 36192/74 Heading D1B Acidic synthetic fibres, particularly polyacrylonitrile or acidically modified polyester fibres. are continuously dyed by first impregnating the material with a solution of a salt, with an acid volatile at about 100‹C, of an azo dye having a molecular weight of 200-500, a vapour pressure at 160‹C above 20 microbans and containing at least one substituted or unsubstituted amino group capable of forming a salt with an acid; then drying, thermcooling at a temperature below the softening point of the fibre substance and subsequently treating with a hot dilute strongly dissociated, volatile or non-volatile acid. The thermcooling temperature is preferably 150-170‹C for polyacrylonitrile fibres and 190-210‹C for acidically modified polyester fibres. Preferred acids for forming the azo dye salt are hydrochloric, acetic or formic acid and for the subsequent aftertreatment a mineral acid.
