Abstract

1473898 Data transmission STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 8 July 1975 [18 July 1974] 31843/74 Heading H4P In a data transmission system of the duplex operation type in which a retransmission cycle is effected on receipt of a corrupted block of data, each data-conveying block is allocated a forward sequence number (FSN), the numbers (FSN) being allocated successively in a fixed cyclic sequence so that each data-conveying block transmitted from one terminal to another has a different FSN from the immediately preceding data-conveying block. Idle blocks are transmitted in the absence of data-conveying blocks and each block whether data-conveying or idle, includes a revertive sequence number (RSN) which identifies the next data-conveying block to be received by said one terminal from that other terminal. Each terminal includes store and logic circuitry described with reference to the single Figure (not shown) which recognizes the said numbers FSN and RSN, which detects by parity checking the reception of a corrupted form of a data-conveying block transmitted from another terminal and which ensures that retransmission occurs only in the direction of said terminal to said other terminal.
