Abstract
1473719 Turbines and compressors - sealing rotor blade tips GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 27 Sept 1974 [27 Sept 1973] 42152/74 Heading FIT The invention relates to a machine such as a turbine or compressor and to a sealing arrangement for the tips of the rotor blades. In the turbine assembly shown the rotor blades 21 carry radial seal members 23 at the tips thereof, the seal members co-operating with radial seal members 29 which project inwardly from a stator seal member 27 which is formed in arcuate segments. The stator casing 13 is formed with an open-sided recess 5À1 in which the seal member segments 27 are received. Each segment 27 is formed with an arcuate recess 35 which co-operates with an annular flange 33 formed on the stator casing, there being provision for radial movement of the segment with respect to the stator casing during assembly and disassembly. The segment is mounted in its radially outward position whereby the seal members 29 can pass over the seal members 23; the segment is then moved radially inwardly so that the seal members 29, 23 are in their correct positions; a spacer member 55 is then inserted between the segment and the stator casing, and the segment is secured by a bolt member 45. The arrangement is suitable for use with undivided stator casings.
