Abstract
1473089 Aircraft launching apparatus DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 13 Aug 1974 [10 July 1973] 32907/73 Heading B7G An apparatus for launching aircraft comprises a launching platform 1 pivotally attached to a support arm 4 rotatable in a vertical plane, a linkage 10, 14 to control the inclination of the platform during rotation of the arm, and a jack 7 to rotate the arm and accelerate the platform in a substantially circular arc. An inflated bolster 20 is provided to retard the arm 4, the sudden retardation causing a nosewheel towing link 3 to automatically release the aircraft. A damper 16 is provided to damp rebound motion of the arm. The platform inclinationcontrolling linkage may take the form of a damper (23), Fig. 4 (not shown), acting between the arm 4 and the rear of the platform 1. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the platform is omitted and the apparatus is directly attached to strong points on the aircraft.
