Abstract

1473085 Refrigerating HOWDEN COMPRESSORS Ltd 10 June 1974 [20 June 1973] 29264/73 Heading F4H In a compression-condensation refrigeration system in which an oil separator 8 is connected to the outlet 12 of the compressor 1, oil from the separator is cooled before it is readmitted to the compressor in a cooler 9 which is supplied with a portion of the condensate refrigerant exhausted from the condenser 2. As shown, the condensate portion passes through a line 7a and a valve 14, which is controllable in accordance with the temperature of the oil leaving the cooler 9, to the cooler. In cooling the oil, the condensate refrigerant is vaporized and is supplied directly to the compressor through an additional inlet 13 which communicates with a compression space or land in a rotor of the compressor when the space or land is cut-off from the compressor inlet 11. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a vessel is provided between the condenser and an expansion valve 3 and separates vaporized from liquid refrigerant. The vaporized refrigerant is supplied along a gas line which joins a liquid refrigerant line between the cooler 9 and the compressor. In a further modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the vaporized refrigerant from the vessel 6 is supplied directly to the compressor. Alternatively, the cooler may be supplied with liquid refrigerant from the vessel 6, Figs. 5, 9 (not shown). The separate oil cooler vessel 9 may be omitted, the oil being passed through a coil in the vessel 6, Fig. 11 (not shown).
