Abstract
1472097 Fracture appliance RIZH NI INST TRAVMATOLOGII I ORTOPEDII 11 Dec 1974 53515/74 Heading A5R An appliance for applying compression or distraction to a fracture comprises rings 1 with needles 3 attached thereto by clamps and passing through the bone fragments of the fracture, helical springs (4) interconnecting the rings 1 and providing compression or distraction, and resilient rods 9 providing rigidity for the appliance. The springs (4) may each be in two segments, one left handed, the other right handed, and connected by a nut 8 which when turned shortens or lengthens the spring. After positioning the appliance in use an extra splitring, Fig. 4 (not shown), may be added without removing the appliance, said split-ring having seats on its outer surface to accommodate the springs and/or rods and brackets, Fig. 7 (not shown) to affix them thereto. Additional needles may also be affixed by clamps, Fig. 6 (not shown). To change the tension in the springs nuts 5 each have a set screw which engages the rod 9 with its end and the spring (4) with its side so that, by loosening, it may slide along the rod carrying the spring with it and be retightened then with the spring in a different tension, Fig. 3 (not shown).
