Abstract
1472084 Sterilising composition ALLERGAN PHARMACEUTICALS 2 July 1974 [24 Sept 1973] 29229/74 Heading A5E A composition suitable for sterilising soft contact lenses comprises (a) a compound havin<g> the formula wherein R represents an alkenyl group having 12-20 carbon atoms, an alkyl group having 12-20 carbon atoms and mixtures thereof, R1, R2 and R3 may be the same or different and are alkyl groups having 1-3 carbon atoms, and X is an anion; and (b) a non-toxic compound selected from water soluble polyhydroxyethylmethacrylate, carboxymethyl cellulose, non- ionic surfactants selected from polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters and polyoxyethylene alcohols, polyvinylpyrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose and mixtures thereof. Buffers, stabilisers and isotonic agents may also be added along with preserving agents such as sodium thimersal and disodium edetate.
