1471660 Glazing unit GLAVERBELMECANIVER 9 Dec 1974 [11 Dec 1973] 57335/73 Heading C1M A glazing unit comprises at least one pair of vitreous sheets 1, 2 soldered to, and spaced by, at least one metallic spacer strip 4, each such strip having a modulus of elasticity of more than 5000 kg./mm.<SP>2</SP> but less than 20,000 kg./ mm.<SP>2</SP>, and each strip having a width (w) measured perpendicular to a sheet face and thickness (t) measured parallel to the said face, expressed in millimetres, such that The strip 4, which hermetically seals space 3, may be of: (a) copper; (b) an alloy comprising at least 70% by weight copper, the balance being at least one of Ni, Al, Fe and Sn; (c) brass having at least 80% by weight copper; (d) an alloy of Zn, Cu and Ti; or (e) steel having not more than 0À3% by weight of carbon. The strip 4 may be coated with, e.g. tin or a solder alloy consisting of (by weight) 50% Pb, 42% Sn and 8% Bi, to improve corrosion resistance and/or to facilitate soldering. Strip 4 may be soldered to sheets 1, 2 with solder 5, 6, the solder consisting of (by weight) 50% Pb and 50% Sn.
