Abstract
1470967 Valves LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 Aug 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 39478/73 Heading F2V [Also in Division G3] A speed responsive valve which is not affected by fluid pressure forces acting thereon comprises a housing 10 having an inlet 11 and outlet 12 connected respectively to the outlet and inlet of an engine fuel pump and containing in bearings 15, 16 a ported rotor 17 carrying a control member 23 opening in response to centrifugal force. As shown, control member 23 comprises closure members 24, 25 threaded together with the interposition of shims 26 so as to simultaneously engage seats 19, 20 under the bias of spring 27. The centre of gravity of control member 23 is displaced from the rotor axis in the valve closed position such that when an engine driven shaft 28 exceeds a predetermined speed closure members 24, 25 unseat under centrifugal action. Thus fuel from the pump outlet is bypassed to the pump inlet via valve inlet 11, rotor ports 21, 29 and valve outlet 12, to reduce the engine fuel supply and thus its speed. The effective areas of closure members 24, 25 are such that the fluid pressures thereon substantially balance.
