1470720 Cutting apparatus UARCO Inc 7 May 1975 19194/75 Heading B4B Apparatus for processing continuous business forms stationery comprises a chains and sprocket drive 64, 68, 70 for driving the stationery along a path through the apparatus and means 36 for trimming at least one longitudinal edge of the stationery including a pair of rotary knives 92, 94 mounted for axial and radial movement relative to each other to and from a position in which they are in substantially peripheral contact, and an actuator for simultaneously effecting the axial and radial relative movement. The rotary knife 92, Fig. 4, is secured to a bush 82 which is rotatably mounted in a housing 84 mounted on a carriage 40, the bush being connected to a rotatable shaft 18 by means of a key 88. The bush 82 is connected by gears 100, 102 to a further bush 98 on which is mounted the second knife 94, the bush 98 being rotatable in a bush 106 eccentrically mounted in member 110. The member 110 is formed with a screwthread 112 for engagement with a similar thread in a sleeve 116 screwed to the housing 84. The knives are moved out of peripheral contact by rotating the member 110 by means of a handle 118, 120 secured thereto; the member is held in its two positions by means of notches 122 on the handle engaging with a spring detent 124, 126. The carriage 40 is transversely adjustable on shafts 18, 20, 22, 24 by means of a rack-andpinion mechanism 46, 48, Fig. 5, the pinion being rotated by a reversable motor 38. The relative axial positions between the chain-and-sprocket drive and the knives 92, 94 may be adjusted by means of a manually-operated worm-and-wheel drive 150, 152, Fig. 5. In a modification, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown) instead of the sleeve 116 being fixed, it may be rotatable by means of a handle (206) such that the knife 94 may be moved axially only, i.e. without a radial movement due to the rotation of the eccentric member 110.
