Abstract

1470313 Elevator weight compensators WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 23 May 1974 [1 June 1973] 23075/74 Heading B8B A weight compensation arrangement in an elevator system comprising an elevator car 62 and counterweight 64 suspended by looped common driving cables, includes at least one metallic strip 66 coupling the undersides of the car and counterweight, the strip 66 being tensioned through rollers 74 engaging the loop end of the strip. The, or each of a plurality of superposed metallic strips 66, has an oblong crosssection, and is guided laterally as it enters and leaves the loop by rollers 124 mounted on spaced plates 100, 102 forming supports for the rollers 74, the plates being adjustable on a pair of spaced angle members 78 to set the metallic strip loop size to the spacing between the car and counterweight. The members 78 forming the compensation frame, are pivotally mounted at 92 for movement in a vertical plane, as guided along a pair of rods 130 freely received in slots in the members 78, compression springs 134 associated with the rods 130 resisting upward movement of the compensation frame up to a limit of full spring compression. The springs 134 maintain the compensation frame and therefore metallic strip continuously in tension.
