1470089 Brackets UNITED CARR Ltd 6 May 1975 [8 May 1974] 20232/74 Heading A4B [Also in Divisions E2 and H2] A restraining device 10 for an electric cable comprises a base 13 with means for attaching the base 13 to a support 28, the base 13 having a planar abutment surface 13a adapted to rest on the support 28, and a platform 12 connected to the base 13 via an intermediate limb 14 the platform 12 having a plurality of locating members e.g. lugs 23, 24, 25 extending downwardly from the lower surface thereof towards the plane of the abutment surface 13a, the lugs 23, 24, 25 forming a serpentine path along which the cable can be deformed and wound. The base 13 may be screwed or rivetted to the support 28 but as shown the attachment means comprise a longitudinally split hollow grommet 15 adapted to pass through an aperture 29 in the support 28. The outer surface of the grommet 15 has a number of circumferential ridges 18, the ridge nearest the base 13 having two oppositely tapered surfaces intersecting at an edge 19 and the remaining ridges having an arcuate circumference. The bore of the grommet contains two triangular protrusions 34. The diameter of the bore is equal to that of a pin 20 which projects from the upper surface of the base 13 and carries a stepped head 21 having ears 22. The cable 27 to be anchored is led through a gap 31 between limb 14 and lug 23, wound around lug 24 between lug 24 and a stop 33 (or against a further member), and out through a gap 32 between limb 14 and lug 25. The grommet 15 is then placed in aperture 29 in the support 28 while lug 24 which extends beyond the plane of the abutment surface 13a is placed in an aperture 30 in the support 28 to prevent the device from rotating. The head 21 is then struck down sharply so that the pin 20 breaks away from base 13 and the tongues 16, 17 of the grommet 18 are forced outwardly so that the grommet 18 is retained in aperture 29. The serpentine path may be formed by passing the cable through holes in the lugs, or the lugs may be replaced by pins, or the cable may be passed around lugs 23, 25 and through a hole in a bridge member 26 near limb 14. The device is preferably formed of synthetic plastics material.
