Abstract
1469780 Gantry vehicles CKD PRAHA 27 June 1974 28584/74 Heading B7H A self-propelled gantry vehicle, e.g. a crane has a front wheel unit 31 and a rear wheel unit 32 on each side of the vehicle, each unit having a wheel (as illustrated each unit has two wheels), an engine 20 situated on one side of the vehicle for driving only the wheels of the front and rear wheel units on that side of the vehicle and a steering mechanism (part being shown at 41) for controlling the front and rear wheel units. Each wheel unit includes a respective vertical shaft, the unit being pivotable about the axis of the shaft, and the steering mechanism is such that the front wheel unit on each side of the vehicle is pivotable in the opposite direction to the rear wheel unit on the same side of the vehicle. Each wheel unit on the one side of the vehicle has associated therewith a respective vertical drive shaft 35 or 36 whose axis is coincident with the axis of the vertical pivot shaft of that wheel unit, the drive shaft being coupled with the wheel (or wheels) of that unit, and both said drive shafts being rotated in the same direction during travel of the vehicle.
