Abstract

1469302 Grafting agglomerated butadienealkyl acrylate rubbers RHONE-PROGIL SA 9 July 1974 [11 July 1973] 30379/74 Heading C3G A resin comprises 2 to 80% by weight of a rubbery polymer and 98 to 20% by weight of a polymer partly grafted upon the rubbery polymer and comprised of 100 to 50% by weight of a vinyl or vinylidene aromatic compound and 0 to 50% by weight of at least one acrylic or methacrylic derivative, wherein the rubbery polymer is a cross-linked copolymer comprised of from 95 to 50% by weight of butadiene and from 5 to 50% by weight of a C 1 to C 10 -alkyl acrylate, the gel ratio of the rubbery copolymer being greater than 80% and the swelling index less than 25, and 10 to 90% of the rubbery polymer being agglomerated before grafting into particles of diameter 0À03 to 10 microns and the degree of grafting of the polymer being from 0À1 to 250%. Examples are given in which butadiene/n-butyl acrylate copolymer latex is agglomerated with polyethylene glycol before being grafted with styrene and acrylonitrile. The graft polymers produced are blended with styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer.
