Abstract

1469222 Aromatic carbamic acid alkyl esters MITSUI TOATSU CHEMICALS Inc 17 Dec 1975 [19 Dec 1974] 51696/75 Heading C2C A process for preparing an aromatic carbamic acid ester comprises reacting an aromatic nitro compound, carbon monoxide and an alcohol of the general formula ROH wherein R is alkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl in the presence of a complex compound comprising a halide of a platinum group metal and a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound or a cross-linked polymer thereof, the platinum group metal being ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium or platinum. The complex compound may be used as such or may be used together with a carrier. The reaction is generally effected under an initial carbon monoxide pressure of 30 to 500 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> at a temperature of 100‹ to 250‹ C. for a reaction time of 10 mins. to 20 hours. The reaction may be accelerated by carrying it out in the presence of a metal oxide or a compound derived from the metal oxide.
