Abstract

1468824 Motor vehicles INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 4 June 1974 [4 June 1973] 26612/73 Heading B7H A motor vehicle has a primary power source, a secondary power source comprising an hydraulic accumulator, and a rotary hydraulic pump/ motor mechanically coupled with the primary power source, the arrangement being such that during braking of the vehicle regenerate torque from the vehicle wheels drives the pump/motor to supply pressurized fluid to the accumulator and during acceleration of the vehicle energy from the accumulator may be made available to supplement that of the primary power source. A bus driven by an I.C. engine 2 includes an axial piston pump/motor 1 mechanically connected to the main drive shaft of the engine. The swash-plate of the pump/motor is controlled by a servomotor 4 connected by mechanical linkage 3 to actuators 23, 24 adjacent the accelerator and brake pedals 8, 9. An electrically operated valve 15 is energized by a microswitch 21 on movement of the brake pedal whereby oil is pumped by pump 1 to the hydraulic accumulator 13 from reservoir 5. An electrically operated valve 17 is energized by a microswitch 22 on movement of the accelerator pedal whereby oil flows from the hydraulic accumulator to drive motor 1 and supplement the power from engine 2.
