Abstract

1468379 Feeding cigarettes to packaging machines; shoots FOCKE & PFUHL 6 March 1974 [21 April 1973] 10137/74 Headings B8C and B8S A magazine for feeding cigarettes in groups to a packaging machine includes a hopper 11 provided with outlets 12 and 13 each of which is provided with downwardly extending channels 16 defined by dividing walls 15. Columns of cigarettes are formed in the channels, the columns defining, between them, stacked rows of cigarettes. The lowermost rows of each outlet are removed at the base of the outlet by pushing fingers 17 to form groups to be subsequently packaged. Each channel is provided with a lug 20 pivoted on a common shaft 23 and having a nose 22 which pushes against the cigarettes in the channel. In this position each lug does not obscure a light beam of a photoelectric device 24, 25 and normal operation is permitted. When a blockage or the like in the hopper prevents cigarettes from falling into a channel, the lug of that channel pivots forwardly into the channel and in doing so obscures the light beam. This generates a signal signifying that there will be cigarettes missing from a subsequent group, which signal may stop the machine.
