Endless-chain, machines.-A machine for excavating trenches or channels with vertical walls comprises two bucket chains passing around parallel beams and raising and lowering means arranged between the beams, the cutting edges of the buckets projecting laterally beyond the beams. The buckets comprise cutters a with cutting edges b, c, d arranged at right angles to each other, the cutters delivering to baskets e with removable hinged caps f. Two lines of such buckets pass over beams h connected by transverse ribs m, buckling being prevented by struts o; lifting ropes q are disposed between the beams. Longitudinal and lateral feeds may be effected automatically. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) described a machine having a single line. of buckets and a single beam, the cutters being wider than the beam, and stated also that the apparatus may be supported by a carriage arranged on frames running on longitudinal tracks and connected by a transverse track. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
