Abstract

1468197 Screw sockets P MORHSSUTTI 1 July 1974 [16 July 1973] 29075/74 Heading F2H [Also in Division E2] A fastener assembly includes a socket body 1, to be expanded in a hole by the frusto-conical surface 7 of a captive internally-threaded expander sleeve 6 drawn through the socket body 1 by an externally-threaded fastener 9 the socket having two pairs of diametrically opposed legs, 2-5 one pair 2,3 extending further towards the leading end of the socket body than the other pair 4, 5 such that on expansion of the socket body the legs 2, 3 are splayed outwards first and the legs 4, 5 are splayed outwards subsequently, means such as a washer 11 being provided on the fastener 9 to abut the outer end of the body 1 to prevent relative axial movement therebetween. The legs 2-5 may as shown have external recesses 16 with corresponding internal ribs (not shown), and internal projections 17 to retain the expander sleeve 6 captive. Tongues 14, 15 extending outwards towards the outer end of the body 1, may be provided on legs 4, 5. To centre the socket body, the washer 11 may have recesses 12 co-operating with teeth 13 on the end surface of the socket body.
