Abstract

1468169 Quality control of wrapped tobacco rod CARRERAS ROTHMANS Ltd 16 Aug 1974 [29 June 1973] 31065/73 Heading A2C A method of producing a wrapped tobacco rod in a continuous cigarette making machine includes forming the tobacco into a continuous layer, testing the layer by applying a force -against it to produce a signal indicative of its resistance to deformation prior to wrapping and using the signal to control the machine to produce a wrapped rod of a substantially constant resistance to deformation. As shown tobacco held under a perforated steel band 6 and after it has been trimmed by ecreteur 11 is of nearly constant width and depth. A loading member 16 determines whether further trimming is necessary by passing a signal to second ecreteur 14. Thus garniture 15 receives sufficient tobacco to give a substantially uniform 'resistance to deformation.
