Abstract

1468013 Observing moving webs ROBINSON & SONS Ltd 9 Oct 1974 [11 Oct 1973] 47525/73 Heading G1A A moving web carrying a regularly repeating pattern is observed by two or more spaced photocells and an output is generated when the photo-cells simultaneously observe predetermined features. The output is used to initiate a cutting or speed control operation. The photo-cells may sense either pattern features or control marks beside the pattern. They are positioned so that they simultaneously sense a mark combination which occurs only when cutting or other control is necessary. Sensing circuits described utilize light dependent resistors and relays connected in various AND relationships. The system may be used in the manufacture of tubes by winding.
