Abstract

1468097 Tongs P SHAW 30 Jan 1976 [4 Feb 1975] 4685/75 Heading B4W Tongs, particularly for disabled persons, comprise an elongate shaft 2 having a handle 4 at one end and clamping means 6 at the other, the handle 4 extending at an angle to the axis of the shaft 2, means such as spring 10 biasing the clamping means to the closed position and a linkage for opening the clamping means the linkage including a bar 13 slidably arranged on the shaft 2 by means of stirrups 14 and a grip portion 18 adjacent the handle 4. The bar 13 is connected to one lever 11b of an alligatortype clip forming the clamping means 6 by means of a wire 21. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the handle 4 and grip portion 18 are of pistol-grip form and means are provided for retaining the jaws of the clamping means in an open position.
