Abstract

1467522 Preparing textured yarn packages for dyeing E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 13 Dec 1974 [14 Dec 1973] 53969/74 Headings DIC, D1F and D1J To prepare a yarn package suitable for dyeing, an uncrimped yarn is given crenodal loops by an air jet, is directly stretched to a degree such that the loops tighten without being eliminated, and is wound at a tension of less than 0.04 gram per denier to form a package having a Shore hardness of less than 40 degrees. The hardness is measured by measuring the penetration of a ball-point indentor of 2.5 mm diameter into the package. As shown, Fig. 1, a yarn 4 is fed by roll 6, treated by liquid in bath 9, formed with crenodal loops by air jet 10, drawn between driven rolls 24, 25 and traversed onto core 20 which may be collapsible both axially and radially. In jet 10, Fig. 2, the yarn is looped by an air jet and impinged against adjustable baffle plate 14. The cores 20 and their packages are placed on rods 29, Fig. 3, loaded into chamber 26, and die is pumped through the packages. Chamber 26 is heated by hot water or steam from pipe 36. Each rod 29, Fig. 4, may comprise cross-shaped member 38 and spring mounted rods 40, 41.
