Abstract

1466968 Dyeing leather HERCULES POWDER CO Ltd 13 Nov 1975 [27 Nov 1974] 51512/74 Heading D1B A process for dyeing tanned leather comprises (1) treating the tanned leather with a cationic condensation product derived from the reaction of epichlorohydrin with either a polyamide or a polyamide/polyamine mixture and thereafter (2) dyeing the leather with a single application of one or more anionic dyestuffs thus obtaining a deeper colour than would be obtained in the absence of the treatment with the cationic condensation product. The leather may be vegetable tanned or semi-chrome tanned and up to 5% by weight of cationic condensation compound based on the dry weight of leather is used, acid, direct, reactive, mordant and solubilised sulphur dyes being employed. The polyamide may be obtained by condensing an aliphatic dibasic carboxylic acid of 3 to 10 carbon atoms, or an aromatic dibasic acid or heterocyclic dibasic acid with a polyamine.
