Abstract
1466265 Boxes &c. DRG PACKAGING Ltd 27 March 1974 [2 April 1973 3 Sept 1973] 15754/73 and 41393/73 Heading B8P A fold line 16 in an externally sheet lined box board component 10 comprises one or more slots 18 to prevent splitting of the lining on folding along the foldline to provide an externallylined bend. As shown, a tray, which has a slot 18 extending along a central creased foldline in the bottom panel 10 and cuts or cut-outs 22 in opposed side panels 14 is externally covered with a paper sheet 20, the edges of which are turned over the upper edge of the tray and adhered to the inner side panel surfaces. The slotted foldline facilitates folding up the tray without splitting the lining. The tray is held in the folded condition by a transparent plastics lid 24 permitting viewing of the contents. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), two widely spaced parallel foldlines are provided in the tray to permit opposed end tray portions to be folded up and held erected by the lid. In the embodiment of Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), two slotted foldlines define a central spine subdividing the tray into a base portion and a hinged fold-over lid portion. In a modification of this embodiment, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), a sleeve 58 is inserted into the base portion and frictionally engages the lid portion on folding over of the latter. The sleeve is retained in the base portion by a sleeve flap or tab 62, which engages over an inturned flap 50 on a side wall panel of the tray base portion. In a final embodiment, a cigar box comprises a folded-over tray slidable within an outer sleeve 72. The tray is similar to that of Fig. 9 but has cuts 74 in the tray bottom panel portions 32 and 34 in line with cuts through side wall panels 76 to define hinged lids 78. The tray is folded in half and adhesively secured by a strip extended around the periphery of the abutting edges of the folded-up tray halves. The folded-over tray is then slid into the sleeve 72, which retains the hinged lids closed until the tray is pushed upwardly.
