Abstract

1466167 Water jet propulsion W STOCKMANN 2 May 1974 [8 May 1973] 19411/74 Heading B7V A water jet propulsion device for a ship comprises a jet pipe 1 from which issues a water jet 4, the pipe 1 being surrounded by a duct 2 communicating with the atmosphere direct or with air introduced by means of a propeller or compressor, the duct 2 projecting rearwardly beyond the end of the jet pipe 1 so that an air jacket 6 will be formed which will mix with the water jet 4 outside the duct 2 to form a water/ air mixture 7. The described device is stated to be more efficient than the use of a simple water jet issuing under water. Preferably the device is mounted so that it can swivel in use.
