Abstract

1465665 Topical composition TOKO YAKUHIN KOGYO KK 12 Sept 1975 [7 Oct 1974] 37577/75 Heading A5B A topical composition of viscosity 3000- 40000 centipoise at 30‹C comprises a carboxyvinyl polymer, alcohol, menthol and/or camphor in an aqueous medium, the composition having been adjusted to a pH of about 7 with an organic amine. The preparation entails adding an aqueous polymer solution to aqueous alcohol, menthol and/or camphor followed by adjusting the resulting mixture to a pH of about 7 with the amine e.g. triethanolamine, triethylamine, diisopropanolamine or diethylamine. Preferably the polymer comprises 0.15- 1.0 wt. percent of the composition. Other active ingredients may be included in the composition e.g. antiseptics, disinfectants, local anaesthetics, vasodilators or antihistamines. Ethanol or denatured alcohol are conveniently utilised as the alcohol components, preferably present in an amount of from 20-90 wt. percent of the composition. Suitable polymers may be selected from "Carkopol" (Registered Trade Mark) 934, 940 and 941.
