Abstract
1465272 Incorporating wire strands into concrete BEKAERT SA NV 2 July 1974 [16 April 1973] Divided out of 1465271 33288/76 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] Cast material is reinforced with short wire strands, having a thickness between 0À1 and 1À0 mm. and a length thickness ratio in the range 50 to 200, by including within the mix reinforcing members comprising a plurality of single strands bonded together by a binder which binder is subsequently disintegrated so as to release the individual strands for final mixing. The members may be bundles of straight or helical wires or straight wires with bent ends. Alternatively the members may be arrays of straight or bent wires. The cross-section of each wire may be circular or flattened and each wire may be coated with zinc, aluminium or organic material and have a roughened surface. The wires may be iron or steel alloyed with nickel or chromium. The cast material may be mortar, concrete, rubber or plastics. In hydraulic mineral cements the binder may be polyvinyl alcohol and the disintegration time varied by the incorporation of various amounts of non- water soluble polyvinyl acetate. Other soluble binders may be urea based resins, polyacrylate, albumins, gelatines, caseins or cellulose derivatives, e.g. methylhydroxy- or carboxy-cellulose. Disintegration may be produced by other constituents of the mix than water and may be by normal or special additives or by heat, i.e. by introducing steam. The parent Specification 1,465,271 (see Division E1) includes claims to the reinforcing members.
