Abstract

1465193 Selective printing F P WILLCOX 2 April 1974 [3 April 1973] 14585/74 Heading B6F [Also in Division G4] A printer having an interchangeable type carrier 10 supported on a carriage 32 displaceable along a print line for character spacing, includes type carrier removing and installing means operable by displacement of the carriage. The carrier 10 is mounted on a shaft 12 and is supported between plates 34, 36. When the carrier is to be changed, it is displaced until the plate 36 engages a shaft support 76 which is disengaged from the shaft against the bias of a spring 79, the carrier thereby also being disengaged from the shaft. The carrier is then held by a receiver 62 which can be rotated to bring an alternative carrier 63, 65 or 67 into position so that return of the carriage to its original position engages the alternative carrier with the shaft 12. The original position of the shaft may be recorded on a magnetic drum 54, or by a counter, shift register or pin store.
