Abstract

1464341 Motor fuels BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 7 Jan 1975 [16 Jan 1974] 576/75 Heading C5G [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises motor fuels containing polyalkyleneglycol polyamines of formula where R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or methyl, R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen or HO-CH 2 -CHR<SP>1</SP>-, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are hydrogen or H-(-O-CH 2 -CHR<SP>1</SP>-) x -, R<SP>5</SP> is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical with 2 to 6 carbon atoms, x is from 5 to 50 and z is from 1 to 4. The polyalkylene-glycol polyamines are prepared by reacting a polyalkylene glycol which has had one hydroxyl group replaced by chlorine, with a polyamine where R<SP>6</SP> is hydrogen or HO-CH 2 -CHR<SP>1</SP>-, or by reacting the polyamine with propylene oxide or ethylene oxide or a mixture thereof. The polyalkyleneglycol polyamines may be added to motor fuels, e.g. gasoline, in amounts of 0À001 to 0À5% by weight; mineral lubricating oils may be included in the compositions. In Examples a polypropylene glycol is reacted with hydrochloric acid to form the chloro derivative and this is reacted with diethylenetriamine to obtain the product of the invention which is added to gasoline with and without a lubricating oil.
