1462034 Production of rubber powders BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd and G J HOLLIDAY (PLASTICS) Ltd 21 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973 15 March 1973] 4453/73 and 12404/73 Heading C3P A process for the production of a powdered rubbery material comprises feeding a rubbery material in large particulate form to an air attrition mill and subsequently treating the resultant powdered rubbery material with a dusting powder (e.g. a Zn or Ca salt of a long chain fatty acid), a dispersion of an antitack agent (e.g. an Na or K salt of a long chain fatty acid) in water being added to the rubbery material, and sufficient of the water being evaporated from a suspension of the powdered rubbery material in an air stream to enable the subsequent treatment with the dusting powder to take place without caking due to the presence of wet particles, the quantities of antitack agent and dusting powder being sufficient to give a free-flowing powdered rubbery material. The rubbery material may be a copolymer of butadiene with styrene or acrylonitrile or may be a masterbatch of a rubber in admixture with, e.g. carbon or PVC and may be cooled before being fed to the air attrition mill.
