Abstract

1461698 Packages; opening containers SPRINTER PACK AB 14 Feb 1974 [22 Feb 1973] 6829/74 Headings B8C and B8D [Also in Division B6] A laminated lid comprises a base sheet 23 having a heat-sealable plastics layer, which is provided with an inset groove 25 melted into the plastics layer to a depth extending at the most to the base sheet surface and defining a frame portion 28 for welding to the edge flange of a container 15, the adhesion between the plastics layer and the base sheet being such that the frame portion 28 of the plastics layer separates from the base sheet as a cohesive film on tearing-off of the lid. The groove is melted into the plastics layer by a hot tool and a further groove 28 is melt-formed in the plastics layer at one corner of the lid to form a tab. The base sheet may be of metal, carton, or plastics material and precoated with a release coating before applying the plastics layer. The container may be of plastics coated metal, carton or plastics material.
