Abstract
1461676 Anemometers PROENGIN 8 April 1974 15398/74 Heading G1R [Also in Divisions F1 and H2] A wind motor comprises a vertically mounted hub 23 having enlarged end portions 21, 22 to which blades 11, 12, 13 are rigidly secured, e.g. by bonding or rivets 15, 16, 17. The blades are also secured adjacent their tips by rivets 18, 19, 20 to a dished base plate 26. Hub portion 22 is rotatably mounted by ball bearings 42, 43 on a fixed support shaft 41 and rigidly carries a disk 31 to which magnets 30 are bonded. The latter co-operate with fixed windings 35, 37 and a magnetic core 38 to form an alternator, the core and windings being embedded in resin and silica contained in a light alloy tray 39. The latter is secured to support shaft 41 by nut 51, a flanged spacer 45 determining the axial clearance e between magnets 30 and windings 35, 37. Spacer 45 is surrounded by a felt washer, retained by snap rings 48, 49, to exclude dirt from bearings 42, 43. The electrical output of the alternator is fed via terminals 58a and 66a and leads (70, 71), Fig. 6 (not shown) to a rectifier (77) and storage battery (78, 79). When the latter is fully charged a semi-conductor circuit (83) turns on to dissipate the generated power. The battery condition can be checked by depressing a button (84) to block circuit (83) and noting the current flow indicator by an ammeter (80). The latter may also be calibrated to give an indication of windspeed.
