Abstract
1461492 Flux for steelmaking DOW CHEMICAL CO 25 March 1974 13117/74 Heading C7D The granulated or powdered reaction product of an admixture of NaOH and CaO e.g. in a mole ratio of about 5:1 pooduced by heating the mixture between 60 C and the melting point of NaOH, is introduced into a CaO flux as a 2-15% weight additive, and the mixture is used as a flux in the manufacture of steel, for example, in a basic oxygen furnace system, where the charge in the furnace is top blown by an oxygen level. The CaO and reaction product flux form a slag to which fluorsfer (CaF 2 ) may be added to control viscosity.
