1460917 Hairbrushes J AKERMAN 27 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972 21 March 1973 14 Nov 1973] 59785/73 Heading A4K A hairbrush comprises a brushing head 15 mounted on a spindle 14 supported for rotation by a handle 12 such that rotation of the head and spindle relative to the handle imparts tension to a spring 22 or 28 disposed between the handle and spindle, the spring automatically effecting a reversed rotation of the spindle and head when said first-mentioned rotation ceases, the head 15 including transverse bristles. In Fig. 1, a nut 24 co-operates with a helical groove 25 on the spindle and is axially slideably, but non-rotatably, mounted in the handle 12 thereby compressing the compression spring 22. A ring 20 extending from handle 12 can be radially deformed by a nut 21 to grip the spindle 14 and prevent said rotation. The brush head 15 may be detachably mounted on the spindle 14 by a screw 16. The spindle 14 may be detachably mounted in the handle 12 by a clip 27. In Fig. 4, the spring comprises an elastomeric torsion bar 28 which is coupled to the spindle 14 for rotation therewith by gears 39 and a spindle 31 or by an endless belt and pulleys. A barrel 35 is fixed to the spindle 14 for rotation therewith and detachably receives the head 15 and co-operates with a bolt 38 provided on a control button 37 axially slideable, but non-rotatable, on handle 12, to prevent rotation of the spindle.
