Abstract

1459005 Seaming non-metallic sheet material AMERICAN CAN CO 25 Feb 1974 [1 March 1973] 8361/74 Heading B5K [Also in Division B8] In a packaging machine, a stack of cartons 10, is double-wrapped in heat-shrinkable film by passage on conveyer 22 through a first station 40 comprising a curtain of shrinkable plastics 42 which is heat-sealed and severed behind the stack to form an open-ended sleeve wrapping, the package then turning through 90 degrees on turntable 50 before heat shrinking at station 60 occurs and the package proceeds to a second wrapping station 70, turntable 80, and shrinking station 90. At stations 40, 70, reciprocable ribbon heater elements form spaced parallel seals between which the film is cut. If the first curtain 42 is not of greater width than the object 10, the first shrinking station 60 may be omitted.
