Abstract
1457734 Nitrosohydrazino- and α-azidobenzylpenicillins ISF SpA 28 July 1975 [31 July 1974] 31457/75 Heading C2C Novel α-(1-nitrosohydrazino)-benzyl penicillin in the form of its epimers or mixtures thereof may be obtained by reacting α-hydrazinobenzylpenicillin of the Formula (II) in the form of an epimer or of a mixture thereof, with a nitrosating agent, e.g. sodium or potassium nitrite or gaseous nitrous oxide in admixture with an inert gas, for example nitrogen. The nitroso derivative (III) may be subsequently dehydrated in the presence of a mineral acid, e.g. at temperatures of - 5‹ to 30‹ C., to form α-azidobenzylpenicillin (I) which is isolated as such or in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt with an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or non-toxic organic base.
