Abstract

1454675 Measuring refraction of the eye TROPEL Inc 21 June 1974 27670/74 Heading G2J An optical system for the objective measurement of the refraction of the eye comprises a source 11 e.g. of infrared or near infrared; a reticle 23 carrying a pattern e.g. slots 26; a polarizing beam-splitter 30 which receives the radiation from source 11 and directs polarized radiation along a path 25 on which is situated the eye 15; a lens 28 for focusing the radiation on to the retina of the eye 15; an element e.g. “-wave plate 33 for altering the polarization of the radiation so that radiation reflected from the retina can pass through the polarizing beam-splitter 30 to a detector 37. A further polarizing beam-splitter 30 may be provided as shown.
