Abstract

1454501 Laminates PERMALI Ltd 23 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49094/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division H1] An insulating end platform 20 for a transformer comprises at least one composite structure of flat laminated composition the lamination planes being parallel to the general plane of the platform at least some of the laminations being formed of a polymeric material incorporating reinforcing strands or fibres of an inorganic or organic material, The reinforced laminations may be of epoxy resin, phenol formaldehyde, a silicone resin, a polyester resin or other thermosetting synthetic plastics, in which fibres of a non-hygroscopic material such as glass are bonded. A lamination may consist of regular sections, the fibres within any one section being parallel but varying regularly in direction from section to section as shown in Fig. 5b. Laminations may also be complete with the fibres being unidirectional (Figs. 4a, 4b, not shown). Each composite structure is formed by pressure curing stacks of reinforced with fibre directions regularly arranged from lamination to lamination. Lamination consisting of sections have a section in one lamination arranged to overlay the joint of sections in an adjacent lamination. Modifications to the composite structure include at least one intermediate layer of wood veneer impregnated with phenolformaldehyde or transformer oil, woven or felted fibrous material or paper all impregnated with phenolformaldehyde. Another embodiment (not shown) has two composite structures spaced by webs of the same composite structure material perpendicular thereto.
