Abstract

1454171 Pyrazinopyridoindoles COUNCIL OF SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH 19 Oct 1973 44002/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts, wherein X is alkylene, oxoalkylene or hydroxyalkylene and R is H, C 1-6 alkyl, aryl, aryloxy, CN, carboalkoxy, dialkylamino, benzodioxanyl or 4-pyridyl, or XR is H; R<SP>1</SP> is H or C 1-6 alkyl; and either Y=Z=H 2 or O, or Y=O and Z=H 2 . The diones are prepared by reacting haloacetyl compound (V) with R-X-NH 2 , and the mono-ones (XR=H; Ia) by reacting (II) with ethyleneimine. The compounds where Y=Z=H 2 are prepared by reducing (Ia) with LiAlH 4 and introducing the group XR (#H) by known reactions Therapeutic compositions having tranquillizing and hypotensive activity comprise the above compounds.
