Abstract

1454054 Novel monomers AGFA-GEVAERT 11 Jan 1974 [30 Jan 1973] 1376/74 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C2 and G2] Polymers comprising recurring units of formula wherein R 1 is an optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted aryl group, R 2 is an optionally substituted C 1-5 alkyl group and R 3 is hydrogen, chlorine or a C 1-4 alkyl group are obtained by homopolymerization of the novel monomers of formula or by copolymerization of said monomers with one or more monomeric compounds containing at least one ethylenic group and being incapable of oxidative coupling with an aromatic primary amino compound (e.g. acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, esters and amides of these acids, styrene, vinyl toluene and divinyl benzene). Preparation Examples 7-16 prepare a homopolymer of the compound of Formula I wherein R 1 is phenyl, R 2 is CH 3 and R 3 is CH 3 as well as copolymers of this compound and of the compound wherein R 1 is p-methylsulphonylphenyl, R 2 is CH 3 and R 3 is CH 3 with n-butyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate/ divinyl benzene, styrene/methacrylic acid, nbutyl acrylate/methacrylic acid or t-butyl acrylamide. The polymer latices are used as competing couplers in colour photography.
