Abstract
1453019 Flat cable AMP Inc 10 April 1974 [23 April 1973] 15926/74 Addition to 1315907 Heading H1A A flat cable 10, comprises spaced parallel signal conductors 12, lying in the same plane, parallel to but spaced from a flat electrically conductive shield member 16, by a transparent dielectric 13 (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate), the shield member having elongate slots 18 arranged in rows and columns, the rows being opposite to and parallel to the length of the signal conductors, and the material of the shield member between adjacent columns defining shunt conductors 22. The width of the slots 18 can be altered to vary the capacitance between the conductors 12 and the shield 16. The shield member has a transversely extending aperture 24, Fig. 3, at one end of the cable tofacilitate connection between a connector and the contact pads (11), Fig. 1 (not shown), of the signal conductors 12. The width W of the shunt conductors is chosen so that its resistance is #0À1# and its length L is such that W/L#0À1, e.g. W= 20 mils, L = 250 mils for an upper frequency limit of 14À8 GHz (10<SP>9</SP> Hz). The cable can be used for CW or pulsed microwave power.
