Abstract
1453042 Disposable animal rearing pens J C M STOKER 8 May 1974 [11 May 1973 6 Nov 1973] 22656/73 and 51426/73 Heading AIM A disposable calf rearing pen comprises a cardboard sleeve 1 and a rectangular cardboard floor portion 2. The pen is erected by folding the ends a b c d of the sleeve inwardly, stapling them together at the corners, and placing the floor portion inside. Several pens may be secured together by means of feed bucket retaining hooks bolted together through adjacent side walls of the pens. Adhesive tapes, wire, staples, bolts, rivets or screws may additionally be employed. Each pen contains a single calf but. dividing walls in a compound pen may be broken down to allow intermingling of calves. The cardboard may be impregnated with substances of unpleasant taste and substances minimizing water adsorption. In this manner the calves are less prone to disease transmitted by other calves or the surroundings of their rearing environment. The thickness of the cardboard is sufficient to withstand 5 to 6 weeks use. For Figure see next column
