Abstract
1451854 Deformable mountings for bridge bearings; bearings GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE AG 17 Oct 1974 [26 Oct 1973] 45576/74 Headings F2A and F2S A deformable mounting for a bearing for bridges comprises a housing base 2 carrying a deformable pressure cushion 1 confined peripherally by a housing ring 6, the housing ring 6 being spaced vertically from a peripheral flange 19 of the base and the gap being sealed by a foamed elastomer layer 18, and the housing ring 6 also being spaced from a vertical surface of the base 2 by a vertically extending gap 14 containing a guide or centering ring 17 of plastics material, and a cover plate 10 of low friction plastics material covering the upper face of the pressure cushion and being engaged at its periphery in a recess in the housing ring 6. The cushion 1 may be of elastomer, and may be elastically or plastically deformable. A shoulder 13 on the housing ring 6 ensures that the base of the cushion is larger than its upper surface. The guide or centering ring 17 is made of carbon-filled PTFE. The gap 14 is sealed by a seal ring 11 embedded in the cushion 1. The foamed elastomer layer 18 is not required to withstand pressure. A bearing plate 3 carries a slide plate of austenitic steel which rests on the cover plate 10, which is made of PTFE and has grooves or recesses 5 for lubricant. Tilting loads are accommodated by rocking of the ring 6 on the base 2.
