Abstract

1451607 Dyeable polymer compositions SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 1 Nov 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 50824/72 Heading C3P Fibres and films of dyeable olefin polymers are made of compositions which comprise (a) a major proportion of an olefin polymer, (b) a styrene copolymer and (c) a lubricant which is compatible with the olefin polymer and styrene copolymer. The olefin polymer may be derived from C 2-6 olefins, e.g. ethylene and propylene. The styrene copolymer may be a styrene/butadiene or acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer. The lubricant may be a carboxylic acid ester, e.g. butyl stearate, low molecular weight polyolefin wax, an olefin/vinyl ester copolymer or a fluorocarbon polymer. The compositions are made into dyeable fibres, films, filaments and stretched-film tapes by melt-extrusion and stretching in the heat-softened condition. Examples describe the preparation of films and tapes from compositions comprising polypropylene, ABS resin and ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers.
