Abstract

1451230 Reconstituted tobacco product KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP 6 Dec 1973 [21 May 1973] 56552/73 Heading A2C A method of making a reconstituted tobacco product for use in a smokable article, comprises:-a) cooking tobacco stalk material at an elevated temperature to individualise the stalk fibres, b) thereafter soaking the cooked stalk fibres at room temperature in a solution of sodium hydroxide or potassium to produce modified fibres, c) separating other natural tobacco material into fibrous material and extract material, d) mixing the modified fibres with the fibrous material and forming the mixture by papermaking techniques into a paperlike web, and e) impregnating the web with the extract material. In step a) the tobacco stalk material may be cooked in a solution containing sodium hydroxide and optionally sodium sulphide or sodium sulphite. In Example V the natural tobacco material used in step c) comprises 50% by weight Americanblends. 40% by weight of midribs of flue-cured tobacco and 10% by weight of midribs of Burley tobacco to which after extraction 10- 40% by weight of bright leaf tobacco, treated according to steps a) and b), is added.
