Abstract

1450639 Track brakes attached to vehicles MASCHINENFABRIK SCHARF GmbH 12 Sept 1974 [28 Sept 1973] 39901/74 Heading F2E In a trolley 2 intended for an overhead conveyer comprising a frame 3 adapted to run along an overhead rail 1 of the conveyer, apparatus for suspending a load P from the frame, and a brake mechanism having holders 10 carrying shoes 9 for application to the rail, the load-suspending apparatus comprises a load arm 11 which extends longitudinally beneath the frame and which is pivotally attached at one end, 13, to the frame for movement in a substantially vertical plane, the other end 20 of the load arm co-operating with an actuator device 16 carried at 17 by the frame; the load arm 11 has between its ends a load suspension point 19 and is operatively connected at 21 between its ends to the brake shoe holders 10, the actuator device 16 having a release condition in which it supports the load arm 11 in a raised position for which the brake shoe holders are inoperative, and a braking condition in which it allows the load arm to pivot downwardly under the weight of the load P to move the brake shoe holders to their operative position. As shown in Figs. 2, 3, the arm 11 consists of two side members 11<SP>1</SP> connected together by a cross member; each brake shoe holder 10 is elbow-shaped and is pivoted at one end to a rod 21 traversing the load arm 11; each holder is also supported at the back by a bolt 27 secured to the trolley frame. A piston 18 normally held raised by hydraulic pressure in cylinder 16 is lowered by release of pressure to permit shoes 9 to engage the upper faces of rail flange 7. In the modification of Fig. 3a the shoes grip the web of the rail on brake application. The hydraulic cylinder 16 may be associated with a valve which is operatively connected to the load arm 11 and which is automatically opened by an overload to vent the cylinder; alternatively or additionally, a valve which acts in the same way when the inclination of the trolley exceeds a certain limit may be provided.
